Southampton University Road Club promoted their first ever Road Race, the James Atherton Memorial RR. The sun shone , the wind blew and it was a bike race that saw 60 starters, quite a few riders struggled with the rolling course and quickley lost contact from the main group. Several breaks went up the road and then get pulled back until the final two laps when 5 riders got away and stayed away with over a minutes gap until the finish, then Mike Cripps had a solo win followed by Richard Prebble and then the Channel Island visitors James Roe & Matthew Osborn took 3rd & 4th with a fast finishing Tom Marshall in 5th.
Jack Beezer led the bunch home from Joe Barry .
